A Regency Romance, with passion, heartache, love, intrigue, action and sensuality, and very much more
Lady Helena Lyndon was once wealthy, moving in the circles of the rich and influential, receiving respect from the elite of Regency society. Now, she has very little. After the death of her parents, the behaviour of her uncle was unforgivable. Her fiancé’s family left her in no doubt that she was no longer welcome, and her fiancé had gone away to fight the French. Their engagement was over.
But Helena’s uncle died in dubious circumstances and left behind massive debts. Helena lost everything, except a very small farm and just enough money to survive. And yet, someone tries to rob her on her way home, and much to her surprise it is her former fiancé who saves her, having returned injured from the war.
Her ex-fiancé wants her, and she wants him, but neither will admit it to the other and, perhaps, at first, not even to themselves. Worse, the conventions of polite society seem to be conspiring to keep them apart.
Someone wants something from Helena, and she has no idea what it is. She is in danger on her farm and, despite his best efforts, her ex-fiancé, Kit, is unable to protect her properly. But when she is summoned to London on a legal matter, everything changes for Helena – and for Kit.

Now this may be one of the odder changes in direction I've seen from an author in a while. If you look up Lindsey Brooks' other books in Amazon, you will find that (he/she) has previously specialized in BDSM erotica; this one, however, is a solid, traditional Regency that is actually tamer than most of the other Regencies being published today. As to the book itself - while the plot is pretty standard (boy loses girl to a misunderstanding, girl falls on hard times, hero rescues girl), at least there is a plot; the characters are engaging; and the writing is solid. If you are tired of paranormal spies, tortured war veterans, and plot lines you could drive a truck through, you might find this one worth a buy.Product details

A Noble Regard edition by Lindsey Brooks Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Having already read and enjoyed all of Lindsey Brooks other books, I was still rather reluctant to read this one. The reason, I'm embarrassed to admit, is it is not erotic romance. I've gotten stuck in quite the erotic rut and, because of that, almost missed out on a true gem. All I can say in this case is, better late than never.
A Noble Regard starts with a bang, moves forward beautifully blending a growing romance, a mystery, humor, and immensely enjoyable slices of life in Regency England and ends with a happy, satisfied sigh. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Regency romances (RR's), when at one time they were my favorite genre. This particular story, while containing many of the elements I've always enjoyed in RR's, also includes several unique plot twists, as well as Mr. Brook's rich characterizations and excellent writing. While still a romantic fiction, the historical period is very accurate giving the story a realism often lacking in anachronistic historical romances.
I enjoyed Helena, a very prideful young woman who had her world yanked out from beneath her. Her pride caused problems that were sometimes annoying, often funny, and very human. She was also a woman willing to own up to her mistakes and take life on with determination and common sense. Kit is often confused and angered by her behavior, but never wavers in his devotion to keeping her safe. I enjoyed the way their relationship developed with more than just mutual lust as its basis. And, although this was definitely not an erotic romance, there was a nice bit of sexual tension and enough heat that I didn't feel overly deprived. ;P
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy romances of all sorts, and historical romances in particular.
Move over Georgette Heyer, Emma Orczy and Jane Austen...make room for Lindsey Brooks Regency era novel, A Noble Regard.
In all the novels I have read, written during this era, or by specialist writers of this era then this has to stand with the best of them on equal footing.
The language and terminology meanings of that time, as for an example, with foxed meaning drunk, the social niceties, improprieties, and class system are all as accurately reflected as can be verified by twenty first century. It would take an academic or Regency era specialist to maybe find flaw.
Then you have two things going on, set at the time Britain and France were at war, there is an adventure mystery...and I admit I guessed correctly but oh such fun following the story to see if guesses are right. And of course, the on off, will they, won't they, sort the muddles out and get the romance on.
As a twentieth and twenty first century person, and with the vast changes in society and current language, there are times when one wants to take the main star crossed lovers, Helena and Kit and shake them both, her by the ear or noggin and him in the region of his fall, as we are far more blunt and forthright in many ways now than propriety allowed then, but this is where so many writers of Regency and Victorian eras fall down, they write as if with the mindset of today, or poor research, whereas this is of excellent quality in both areas.
Now fair warning to those who have read others of Lindsey's books, this is nothing like the others. Romance, with maybe a touch of erotic in one part is as close as it gets to others written by this author, who I hold in esteem for his ability to write and his ability to change to a very different genre.
For Regency buffs, this is for you. I have to say it is 5 stars from me. Oh, and Lindsey, I hope you are able to write more.
This book had one of those typical plot where the H/h were in love lost touch found each other again but took the entire book to realize they were still in love. So why did I have to stay up all night to finish this book? Because the characters were interesting both main and secendary characters have; well they have character. This was definitely a character driven mystery romance, with more mystery and a lot of flirty romance.
Lord kit Gerard went away to war and almost did not make it home alive. He was fighting an up hill battle and had a hard time finding a reason to live again when by chance he saves his exfiance Lady Helena Lyndon's life in an attempt to kidnap her. From that point on he made it his business try and keep her safe even when she did not think she needed it.
The secendary characters had such great roles in this book. The way they all banded together to help Helena get the respect she deserved back from the ton that she lost from being the neice of a not so nice uncle.
This tale was told well. The period was portrayed in the characters and the dialogue. Brooks did a great job with the time period. The intrigue the twists the plot this is the entire package. Very sweet romance.
I won this book from a contest and this is an honest review.
